It is my great privilege to extend my warmest greetings to all members, colleagues, and partners of our orthopaedic community. As surgeons dedicated to restoring mobility, alleviating pain, and improving quality of life, each of you contributes to a field that profoundly impacts the daily lives of our patients.
This past year has reminded us that orthopaedics is both a rigorous surgical discipline and a calling grounded in compassion. Started in 2004, from a close-knit interest group of a few surgeons, our society has continued to grow through shared experience, clinical innovation, and the collective pursuit of excellence in musculoskeletal care. From advancements in trauma management to breakthroughs in joint preservation and arthroplasty, our progress reflects the skill, curiosity, and dedication of our members.
Looking ahead, our mission remains focused: to support continuous professional development, to promote evidence-based and ethical surgical practice, and to strengthen collaboration across subspecialties. Equally important is our commitment to nurturing the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and ensuring they inherit a profession that is progressive, inclusive, and resilient. In 2026 , we are going to collaborate with APAS ( Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society) in our annual scientific meeting beside other workshops and CME programs for our members in the next 2 years.
Thank you for your steadfast support, your tireless service to patients, and your contributions to advancing the art and science of orthopaedic surgery. It is an honor to serve as your President, and I look forward to the milestones we will achieve together in the coming years.

Welcome to MSHKS website. It is with great pleasure that I address you as the President 2023-2025. The Malaysian Society for Hip and Knee Surgeons plays a pivotal role in advancing the field of orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the specialised areas of hip and knee surgeries.
Our vision at MSHKS is threefold: education, networking, and advocacy. These pillars form the foundation upon which we strive to enhance the knowledge and skills of our members, foster meaningful connections within our community, and collectively advocate for the interests and advancements in hip and knee surgical practices across Malaysia.
Education lies at the core of our mission. Through continuous learning opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and research initiatives, we aim to ensure that our members are equipped with the latest advancements and best practices in hip and knee surgery. By nurturing a culture of lifelong learning, we empower our surgeons to deliver the highest standards of care to our patients.
Networking is equally essential as it facilitates collaboration and the exchange of ideas among peers. MSHKS provides a platform for hip and knee surgeons from diverse backgrounds to come together, share experiences, and forge partnerships that transcend institutions and geographical boundaries. These connections not only enrich our professional lives but also contribute to the advancement of hip and knee surgery in Malaysia.
Advocacy forms the third pillar of our vision. As a collective voice for hip and knee surgeons in our country, MSHKS is committed to advocating for policies and practices that promote excellence in patient care, uphold professional standards, and support the needs of our members. By engaging with stakeholders and policymakers, we seek to influence positive change and create a conducive environment for our specialty to thrive.
As we look ahead, I am confident that together, we can achieve great strides in advancing the field of hip and knee surgery in Malaysia. I encourage all members to actively participate in our initiatives, contribute their expertise, and engage in the vibrant community that MSHKS offers.
The formation of Malaysian Society for Hip and Knee Surgeons (MSHKS) was first mooted by Dr Jamal Azmi and Dr Ruslan Simanjuntak, who were both pioneers of the Malaysian Arthroplasty Interest Group (MAIG), a subspecialty interest group of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA). This idea came about due to the need for an independent, organized platform to address learning, discuss cases and hold events on hip and knee-related pathologies affecting both the young and old, as well as to facilitate networking and friendship with similar regional and international societies. The MSHKS was successfully registered with the Registrar of Societies on 30th January 2019.
On the 1st of May, 2019, MSHKS was officially launched at the Le Méridien Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This historic event was graced by the MSHKS Patron, Dr Lawrence D. Dorr, invited local and international guests from Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, as well as industry partners. Dato’ Dr Badrul Shah Badaruddin, the protem president, kicked off the event with a welcoming speech, followed by Dr Jamal Azmi, who elaborated on the mission and goals of the MSHKS. Three distinguished speakers, Dr Lawrence Dorr, Dr David Liu, and Dr Aree Tanavalee, delivered well-received lectures on spinopelvic mobility and hip and knee revision arthroplasty. To spice up the event, a lucky draw was organized, in which there were four eventual winners, while all attendees received an informative booklet on the prevention of prosthetic joint infection.
